During a recent appearance on FOX Business, I weighed in on defensive sector options and explained that investors are making gambles by heavily allocating portfolios with these “safer investments.” I suggested that there is no safe sector and loading up on defensive options increases portfolio risk and lowers expected returns. Please watch the video and leave me your comments.

Larry Kudlow and friends asked me to weigh in with my thoughts about commodities today on “The Call.” I reminded them that the long-term expected rate of return on commodities is zero! Diversified investors don’t need to “double down” on commodities as they are already represented through companies owned in their portfolio. Let me know what you think – leave a comment!

If you missed my in studio appearance on Fox Business with Liz Claman, this is the second segment of three. This segment covers the top 3 holdings we have in US equities, value investing, efficient market theory, why we own certain companies and how they fit into our portfolios. I am not making specific stock picks here, but in my appearances, producers and hosts always press me for my “picks” so I usually give them our top 3 holdings in US equities or international or an asset category but if you notice, I put it into the context of the portfolio (number of holdings) and how returns come from the market and how it is impossible to predict, etc. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

If you missed my in studio appearance on Fox Business with Liz Claman, this is the first segment of three. This segment covers equities being the best long-term wealth creation tool on the planet, commodity investing, bonds, diversification, speculating and gambling and much more. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

On CNBC the discussion surrounded value investing and the cost of capital story. You definitely want to see this segment that was live from the New York Stock Exchange. This one began to get heated when host Mark Haines got in my face a bit regarding my “picks”! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think about how I handled it.

On Fox News with Jenna Lee, I discussed corporate tax reform, the killing of Osama bin Laden and what it could mean for your investments. It was awesome being live and in studio for this segment. Leave a comment and let me know what you think.

Check out my latest appearance on Fox Business where muni-bonds were the topic of interest. I gave my thoughts on the state of muni-bonds and what investors should do with these investments. I explain why we don’t hold muni-bonds in our portfolios. This is a great piece to share with investors who may have questions regarding muni-bonds.

Check out this week’s Fox Business smack down with Erica Payne where the discussion was about key points in Obama’s State of the Union address. This one got ugly.

Check out the second segment from Fox Business this week where I weighed in on the recent Goldman Sachs news. I discussed our holding in Goldman, worries about their quarterly profits and their botching of the facebook deal. I even got in a growth vs. value explanation. Are you concerned about Goldman?

Check out my recent appearance on Fox Business where China was the hot topic. I discussed our holding in China and more. Should we cater to communists?

Check out my first appearance with Larry Kudlow in 2011 where I discussed European debt fears, bonds and company earnings and the affect those reports can have on the market.

Should jobs be the first thing on the new 112th Congress’ agenda? The discussion shifted to the best way to drive economic growth.

On the Kudlow Report, we talked about if President Obama is becoming “business and capitalism friendly,” and why I’m always bullish on equities.

This is a big one. I covered rebalancing, market premiums (three factor model), market efficiency, diversification, capitalism and I even slipped in a little fixed income. By the way, Kudlow gave me another Nobel Prize as well.

Taxes and the Deficit Commission’s suggestions as to how address the glaring deficit problem are the two hot topics for my Fox Business appearance this week. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Watch as I offer my insight on how investors’ sentiment affects the market. I explain that emotions and instincts are typically investors’ enemies. I also discuss how I am finding opportunity in the market today by keeping portfolios globally diversified. On Fox Business, we discuss the disadvantages of inflating U.S. currency and devaluing the dollar. Find out why I think we need to avoid monetization of debt which will give additional control to the Fed. Additionally, the Fed’s efforts will not create true long-term growth and stimulus opportunities.

CNBC wanted to have a discussion on the market and asked if there was “More Room to Rally.” As you know, I think there is always room to rally which I weighed in on. As with any appearance, the conversation quickly shifted into recent news and a discussion ensued regarding the Fed’s recent decision for quantitative easing and what that means for markets. I know there have been questions regarding this recently and I think this segment is timely to address some of those concerns. Check out part two of my appearance with Cheryl Casone on Fox Business last week. In this segment we talk about if health care laws will be repealed by the new Congress. Will the Republican win in the House and Senate have an effect on tax cuts? Check out my comments to Cheryl Casone and Erica Payne after Tuesday’s elections. What do you think will happen as a result of the shift of power in Congress?

I had another opportunity to appear on CNBC’s “The Call” with Larry Kudlow today. See what I had to say about high-book-to-market investments, why I think capitalism can create wealth faster than the government can destroy it, and why global diversification is important even when the U.S. market seems to be making a comeback.

Last week I was asked to appear again on the Big Money segment for BNN to discuss my thoughts on the market, what investors should be doing right now and how many mutual funds have died so far this year as well as many other market related topics. This is a great clip to share with clients and prospects. Watch and discuss. (Click here for the direct BNN Link)

Last week I had an appearance on Fox News to discuss the foreclosure chaos and what it means for investors and the financial system.

Check out my latest appearance on Fox Business where I discussed how many times we have actually hit 11,000 in the Dow, why you shouldn’t try to time the market, the three rules of investing and the importance of investing long-term with a coach.

Watch Erica Payne come completely unhinged as we debate the extension of the Bush tax cuts.

Past Performance is no guarantee of future results. This message is so important; I had to get it in before breaking news. Check out my latest appearance on CNBC where I answer questions regarding whether or not people should be in the market, how to use fixed income and the importance of value companies in a portfolio. I squared off again with Erica Payne yesterday with the topic this time being whether or not businesses deserve tax breaks. As I am sure you are aware, I am all for lowering taxes but not in the way this administration is proposing. This is classic bait and switch. If you own a small business, you do not want to miss this segment. Click here for the direct link to the video
Last time Larry Kudlow nominated me for the Nobel Prize in economics. This time we go head to head.

During my recent media tour in New York, I was asked to stop by the NASDAQ floor and discuss my market opinion (as you know always bullish) with the Canadian based Business News Network. We covered everything from the Olympics to some of the Canadian holdings in our portfolios. Leave me a comment and let me know what you think. Larry Nusbaum, of the Vertex Fund, and Mark Matson, of Matson Money, share their investment strategies and debate about gold and commodities.

Posted: January 13, 2009 – Mark, Where’s The Suite?

I’ve been asked several times why I don’t wear the traditional suit and tie for markmatson.tv, I thought I’d take the opportunity to remind everyone not to judge a man by the suit he wears.
